Faceless Women

These works are a product of my interest and exploration into the male gaze, and the
prevalence of sexualised imagery of women in contemporary media.

Influenced by writer and comedian Marcia Belsky’s site
www.headlesswomenofhollywood.com, I highlight this strange phenomenon of the
metaphorical “decapitation” of women in Hollywood film posters through the medium of oil
paint. Taking inspiration from film posters and social media imagery, I aim to hijack the
traditionally male dominated medium and ‘high art’ sphere with images of objectified,
“faceless” women.
